Spaceman lands at Parkside

31 March 2016 (by Mrs Atkinson (parksidepri))

A surprise visit from the Urban Astronaut to inspire writing.

There was an unusual and surprising visitor at Parkside Primary in March when the Urban Astronaut landed. The visit, which was a complete surprise to the children until he arrived in the playground, was a dance performance designed to inspire the children's writing. The whole school came out into the playground to find a young woman planting some flowers in soil, and then the astronaut arrived suspended 20 feet in the air on a pulley. As the piece contained only movement and dance without any dialogue, the children could interpret the story in a number of ways. You can find some examples of the fantastic writing produced by the children by going to 'Latest News' and then choosing 'Recent Work' from the dropdown menu. The performance was organised at the schools by Nicola Dixon at The Junction and was performed by Highly Sprung, a performance arts company who tour across the country.
